SLXRemote: Class not registered (v7.5.2/SQL2008 R2 Express Edition)

SLX v7.5.2

SQL 2008 R2 on server

SQL 2008 R2 EE installed on laptop via update on a SQL2005 from the *.msi/Setup.Exe for the SLX v7.5.2 remote client.

[Note: I've also completely uninstalled SQL2005 and 2008 and done a clean installation.  I've tried SalesLogix and SQLExpress for the Instance name.. same issue/error]

UAC is set to the lowest level, fwiw...

64 bit chip with 64 bit Win7 Professional

When double-clicking the *.sxd to attach the remote DB, I continue to receive "Failed to attach database: Class not registered".

What I've done after installing SLX v7.5.2 via the Remote Client installation procedure...

1) Uninstalled SQL 2005  (Intellisync was not touched in any of these steps, nor was SLX)

2) Installed SQL2008 R2 Express Edition

Got the error above...

3) Uninstalled SQL2008 R2 EE

4) Uninstalled DotNet Framework v4 (see http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/34671131-a095-4068-b4d8-ab5e...)

5) Restarted Win7 Pro

6) Installed SQL 2008 R2 EE

7) Updated Win7 for DotNet v4

8) Restarted Win7 Pro

9) Got same error above...

Any suggestions on direction appreciated....  I have not uninstalled and re-installed SLX as this appears to be a SQL related issue.  This issue occurs on two (2) laptops!  ;-((

TIA

Hi,

Try attaching the database manaully by installing SQL Management Studio - Databases - Right Mouse Click - Attach (You will need to create the sysdba user manually too (Security - Logins)

One more thing. If you recieve and 'Windows Operating system error' when attaching the database manually install SQL Backward Compatibily for 2005 - Just in case your database compatibilty is not SQL Server 2008 (100) on the host?

Also worth noting that 7.5.2 is NOT supported on Windows 7 clients.

Re: SLXRemote: Class not registered (v7.5.2/SQL2008 R2 Express Edition)

Hi Emma,

According to the SLX Compatibility Checklist, Updated June 2011 for v7.5.4, Windows 7 is supported for v7.5.2.  V7.5.1 and  before are not.  v7.5.2 has a checkmark in the box under "Microsoft Windows 7"

Thanks!

Hi Adam,

The host SQL DB is 2008 R2 (not SP1).

THanks!

Re: SLXRemote: Class not registered (v7.5.2/SQL2008 R2 Express Edition)

Sorry Tom, you are right, I misread that!

I recommend installing the 2005 backward compatibility tools on the remote users laptop.  If I remember rightly the attach remote function uses a SQL 2005 call and therefore needs this to attach correctly.

It shouldn't... We tested it (on Win 7) when it first came out and had nothing but trouble.

Re: SLXRemote: Class not registered (v7.5.2/SQL2008 R2 Express Edition)

Great point, Emma!

Didn't think about that....

However... why would I get this when I've run an update from SQL 2005 to SQL2008?  (At least at this moment in reflection on my sequences I did this on one of the laptops.)  I'll try this and let you know...

TIA

Re: SLXRemote: Class not registered (v7.5.2/SQL2008 R2 Express Edition)

So RJ, you're saying to not install the 2005 Backward Compatibility to address the "Class not Registered"?

What's your suggestion on the solution?  Any ideas?

Tom
