Problem with Connection SLX7.51 / SQL 2008

Hello,

i have a problem to connect with the SLX-Client to the Database. It's a fresh install and everything worked fine until i changed the Connection in Connection Manager.

Before

OLEDB Client in Connection Manager

New

SQLNCLI10 in Connection Manager

When testing the Connection in the Connection Manager, the Test is succesfull. When testing the Connection in the Client i receive the error: Unable to initialize data dictionary. Invalid Object SYSTEMINFO (translated from german ...).

From MS SQL Managment Studio, i can login with sysdba.

Retesting Connection in Connection Manager is ok.

All this, i am trying this on the Server, Windows 2003 and no more ideas...

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: Problem with Connection SLX7.51 / SQL 2008

Rainer,

I just ran into this and I switched from the 10.0 SQL Client to the earlier version in the connection settings. I am not sure if there is a way to get the 10 client to work but it was my dev machine so I didnt fight with it.

Hi Timmus,

if i understand you right, you changed to SQLNCLI of SQL 2005? I will try this. Ithink i have to install this, because in the Provider Tab i only have SQLNCLI10.

More in a few minutes :-)

Re: Problem with Connection SLX7.51 / SQL 2008

And i worked for me!!!!! You saved my night (it's 01:00 AM in Germany now).

I installed the SQL Native Client 2005 from the SLX DVD and recreated the Connection in Connection Manager based on SQLNCLI.

Hope this will help others.

Re: Problem with Connection SLX7.51 / SQL 2008

Guys,  There is a specific method of resetting the security on the connection that has to be done for 2008 to work correctly. Once done it does work.

Page 29 task 6 of the implementation guide.

(Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Only) On the All tab:
a. Double-click Persist Security Info.
b. In the Property Value drop-down list, select True.
c. Click OK.
d. Double-click Integrated Security.
e. Click Reset Value.
Data may exist that does not display in the Value field. This value must be reset to
ensure that all data is removed.
f. Click OK.

Sorry I'm late to the party - we noticed this some time back and wrote up a doc - easily missed !

Thank you Mike and Craig. I had changed the persist security setting but did not reset integrated security. Now all is well.

Thanks again!

Thanks from me to.

I've recognized, that the security information was not saved and changed it in the settings. But i did not set the value for Integrated Security. Good hint.

Re: Problem with Connection SLX7.51 / SQL 2008

And one more thanks, from me. My customer took his SQL2005 machine, updated it to SQL2008, reattached his db, and we couldn't connect. This worked instantly. Thanks so much!
