Next time you’re on an airplane and you’ve reached that cruising altitude when the pilot allows us to bring out our approved electronic devices, look around you. Have you noticed the abundance of smartphones and tablets these days? Remember when everyone was getting up to grab their laptop from the overhead bin? It almost seems as though anyone still doing this is just not with the times.

 

Mobile CRM is increasingly becoming a demand versus a “nice to have” during the sales cycle because more companies are actually replacing laptops with these devices in their remote workforce. Tablets and smartphones are less expensive, easier to maintain and the ability to be productive with your CRM tool as well as other critical applications on the road makes using a laptop unnecessary in many cases. In fact, 28% of users have replaced their PC or laptop with a tablet* and Gartner predicts that 80% of businesses will support a workforce using tablets by 2013**. I find that I’m only opening my laptop on the road these days when it comes time for heavy computing needs such as running reports or submitting expenses while back at the hotel.

 

Sage Saleslogix Mobile provides me with a feature rich extension of my most critical CRM functionality on my smartphone while traveling. I have access my accounts, calendar and opportunities and I can easily perform the most critical tasks such as scheduling meetings or logging calls into History which is then accessible back at the office real time as long as I’m connected to my service provider. Even though I’m not a field service or support technician, I still need to access Tickets from time to time so I know what’s been happening with an Account I’m about to meet with that day.  This makes me a more educated Sales person who has a 360 degree view of the account I’m working with and this leaves an impression with my customers that they’re important to me.

 

The Mobile platform is also open source so its easy to extend the integration to include other data sources relied on by the business such as ERP or a web portal. This gives the solution longevity and a real return on investment.
