New SalesLogix Knowledgebase Search Interface!

by jjacobsen on ‎06-25-2010 07:28 AM

The SalesLogix Knowledgebase has a new search interface!

  1. In the Select Product Line: field, click SalesLogix.
  2. In the Search Text: field, enter the search term(s).
  3. Click Search.
  4. In the Search Results area, click the resolution.

User tips:

  • The search engine looks for matches in the article title, body of the article and added synonyms. Use unique search terms or error messages.
  • When multiple search terms are used, search looks at each individual term, not a search phrase or string.
    • Example 1: ‘install SalesLogix’ will search for ‘install’ and ‘SalesLogix’ not the search string together.
    • Example 2: Using multiple defect ID’s will return each article that contains the entered defect ID.
  • The following characters are scrubbed from the search:  <  >  -  ”  &  ’  |
  • Booleans (and, or, not) are not recognized.
  • The return article limit is 100 articles. To see more or different articles, change the search term(s).

The Knowledgebase survey (link on the landing page) will include an option for Product Line. Please feel free to submit any suggestions or issues. We continue to look for way to improve the usability and content, your feedback is extremely important to us. Additionally, if you are interested in providing content or want to request specific content, use the survey or the Suggest an Article link on SupportOnline.  If you include your contact information, we will respond within 48 business hours.

I've been using the new interface for some time and find it is returning too much (and many times) unrelated info.

Can you please give us the ability to search for things like:

'Install SalesLogix" (as a complete term)

   Provide for boolean searches

or just re-expose the old interface as an option. It was much better than what we now have

Oh yes, please give us the option to limit the number of returned hits - 100 is way too much.

What would be even better is to have an interface like advanced speedsearch.. 1000 times better

I agree with RJ. How is this an improvement?

Thanks for the responses. The key change with this search engine - it now searches within the body of the article. The old search only looked within the title and keywords. This requires we use more exact and unique search terms to limit the results. We will continue to investigate enhancing this search to include the features like Booleans and phrase searches.

Based upon the fact it now searches the body, it makes it all the more important to add/expose advanced searching capability asap or it will become useless very quickly.

Right now it's like drinking from a fire-hose. ;-)

Can you also add SalesLogix Applications to narrow the search with as well? e.g. Install, Upgrade, SalesLogix LAN, SalesLogix Web, SalesLogix Mobile, Exchange Link, Speed Search, LAN Defect, Web Defect etc.
