Saleslogix 8.1 has been significant release for all of us. We have had a chance to catch up on a few features that have needed and evolve the platform. I would like to talk about two additional gems in this release. They are major improvements to the platform and come from upgrading ore reporting and Outlook integration engines.
We all know and use Crystal Reports. Crystal Reports is a staple for most businesses. It meets our needs to build all kinds of great views into our business. We can create reports to see our data as lists, cross-tabs, charts and "pixel perfect" detailed reports such as invoices or sales orders. This is great but we always want more, faster and better reports.
The good news is that Saleslogix 8.1 has lots of improvements to how we manage reports. We have combined the power of the Crystal Reports engine with the power of Saleslogix job services. Saleslogix Job Services is our way of managing long running process such as reports. We introduced job services and the Job Manager in Saleslogix 8.0. By combining the two services we now allow the user to run production reports on-demand but continue to work on other things in Saleslogix. The user is alerted to when the report is complete. No need to wait until the report is done. The user can view the list of reports and their progress as a main view. Saleslogix 8.1 introduces scheduling of reports too. This feature allows users to schedule a report to run at a particular frequency such as a weekly or nightly report. The report is ready for you when you when you arrive each morning. Reports can be saved in a number of formats and archived for later retrieval.
Another gem is our new desktop sync with Microsoft Outlook. We have replaced the previous 3rd party sync engine with our new sync engine. The new sync engine leverages the latest in sync technology to bring the next generation sync to the Saleslogix platform. We have spent a number of years perfecting our sync engine for ERP integration. It was a combined effort of a number of teams over multiple years. We capitalize on all that great work by extending the ERP integration using our SData contract. The contract now includes activities and calendaring. We are on our quest to simplify how we do sync. The SData contract extension and uniting our ERP strategy with our desktop sync strategy is a huge step forward to making all of our lives easier. We get the benefits of new sync administration, monitoring and logging. We get one sync engine to improve and fix.
Saleslogix 8.1 release is only a few weeks away. If you are excited to participate early please let us know.
