Adding a new dashboard widget to the Welcome page is pretty straight-forward. I knew you could add new dimensions and metrics but I haven’t configured them until last week while preparing for a proof of concept demonstration. I was pleasantly surprised it was a pretty quick configuration to make.
The “dimension” value is the data you want to view. The “metric” value is the way you want to calculate the data. For example, you want to display a funnel chart showing all open opportunities group by stage (dimension) and display a count per each stage (metric). In my scenario, they wanted to analyze who closed the largest opportunities in the last quarter, how many opportunities by sales manager. They had some incentives to reward those with 5 or more opportunities that were over a specific amount. I ended up adding new dashboard metric so I could filter and set goals only for those closed opportunities and define a goal within the chart.
Both the dimensions and metrics are defined as filters within the Entities in the Application Architect. If you are trying to add a new dimension property, you can use any of your current Range and Distinct filters as an Analytic definition by making sure you select the property “Available for Advanced Analytics” to be true. To add new metrics (calculations), you need to define your filter as an “analytic date differencing metric” or “analytic metric definition”. The change does require a rebuild and re-deploy your website to make it active.
