Wouldn't it Be Cool if Sage Provided Auditing of Security Changes

Status: New

We have a need to audit application security changes and to keep a history of the changes. We must also provide reports to internal and external auditors on a somewhat frequent basis. It would be great if Sage provided a delivered a structure and/or audit report for these security changes.

The data we need is basically the old security value, the new value and the modified user and date/time. I am currently working on pulling this data from the database (We use SQL Server 2005), but the data is somewhat cryptic and I am not sure how to compile it into something meaningful to an auditor. It appears that the old value is not stored in the database, and all that I can get would be the current (new) value and the modified user and date/time.

At this point, I am considering using SQL Triggers and a new SQL table to solve the old/new value issue, but again, I can't imagine that we are the only company in the Sage community with this type of need.

Actually, We have done this (easily) using Taskcentre

Looks like TaskCentre is a third party app? If so, it's probably not an option for my situation.

wouldn't it be convenient to take advantage of SQL Server's event notification services and build the changes into a custom db?

It would be nice to take advantage of SQL server.. However, a long time ago SalesLogix chose the db agnostic approach. Many of us wanted to see Oracle support dropped (and still think it is a good idea to drop it) to be able to do these kind of things.

Until that time comes, these things will not happen.
