Windows Authentication support for Multiple Domains

Status: Under Consideration
by Nickel Contributor anoshwadia on ‎10-14-2011 08:20 AM

Not sure if this is possible but it would be handy if SalesLogix users from multiple domains (with a domain trust relationship between the domains) could be used for Windows authentication.

Currently it seems like only the domain of the SalesLogix server is supported. We've tried associating a user from a trusted domain and it appears to select it, however when you edit the user profile it reverts back to the domain the saleslogix server is on.

Example:  Company has DOMAIN1 and DOMAIN2 with a trust relationship between them

SLX server is on DOMAIN1

User is on DOMAIN2

We edit the user's profile and pick DOMAIN2\Username from ActiveDirectory and it shows up in the SalesLogix profile. We clicks OK to save the profile and then edit it again and it shows up as DOMAIN1\Username.

We have several customers who have multiple domains and this would be a handy feature to have.

Thanks!

We were able to do this.  We set up one Active Directory Account for our XYZ users.  Our Main SalesLogix users in the other domain I'll call our ABC users.  Eventually our XYZ domain useres were going to be moved to the ABC domain.  What we doid then was put the XYZ Active Direvtory Group inside the ABC Active Directory group and they were all able to access SalesLogix while logging into their appropriate Domains. The second piece of this of course is that the SLX Admin had to be update to point each user in Windows Authentication to the Domain, Active Directory group that they were logging into.

Hi Jeff,

Maybe I'm mis-reading your post but were your users on two different domains able to login to SLX using Windows Authentication and did that work? It seems like you were moving / replicating the users on the other domain.

The issue we have with our larger customers is that they have multiple domains and they'd like users to be able to use windows authentication across domains.

Thanks!

Are you talking about users that have Windows Accounts in multiple domains or just a bunch of uers from different domains (unique users)?  Seems the 2nd one would work and the first.. never.

All SalesLogix does is save the "SID/GUID" of the user. It NEVER goes back to AD to ever check again once setup in admin.

It's not AD integrated.

Hi RJ,

A common scenario:

COMPANY A acquires COMPANY B

They want to continue using 2 different Active Directory domains but they link their domains together and establish a trust relationship between the two.

COMPANY A has SalesLogix and wants COMPANY B's users to have it too, and be able to login with Windows Authentication.

However this does not appear to work, only Company A users can use windows auth.
