Give each exe a different looking icon. When they are all pinned to the taskbar having them all the same makes it harder to selection the one you want. Guessing Vs. hoping the mouse hover enlightens you.
Totally agree, need to easily differentiate between the different applications, I raised this in Beta and was told they would not be updating them before release, I urged them to re-consider as they could expect a lot of people to be unhappy with this but clearly they did not.
Thank you for your comments. I will see what I can do to push this idea along. Unfortunately, it will be an uphill battle. The feedback I've received so far is that it is cost prohibitive. Icons don't seem like that big of a deal but there are other costs involved including copywriting, branding, trademark registration, international costs, etc.
I will update this post as I get new information. Thanks!

Kevin,
Appreciate the cost/legal concerns and I hate to be nit-picky, but these icons are honestly a pain, especially since Windows now only shows the application icon by default in the task bar, not the full application name (yes I know that can be changed).
Maybe there could be a more simplistic way of differentiating them....either by changing the background color of the icons for the Administrator, Architect and Application Architect?
Or instead of them all being the letter S, maybe something like Ad for Administrator, Ar for Architect and AA for Application Architect?
Just a thought!

Kevin,
I agree with Anosh, we need a better way of differentiating the icons than havingin a bunch of black "S" logos in the task tray.
Playing devils advocate, what associated costs that you mention that would be involved in moving back to the original Saleslogix icons, pre v8.1.0? i would think that it would be far less that the pain the curent icons cause the customer base.
Jim
Agree w/Jim - How about we just go back and use the Original Saleslogix Icons.. the "S" Icon is fine for the client - but we are getting requests from customers to "swap out" the "S" for the old icons..
For those interested - it is possible by RMB on the exe(s).. property.. change icon.. browse - I just changed all my 8.1 icons back!
Hey all,
This is a great point and I completely agree with everybody. I've already started internal discussions on this topic and will include using previous icons as a possible solution. I'll keep you posted on the status.
In the meantime, as RJ pointed out, the icons can be changed manually. It's not the ideal solution but it is helpful. Here is a link with more detailed instructions:

Hey All,
Just to keep everybody up to date, I am continuing to work with our marketing department on this effort. It is moving forward but I don't have any additional information, yet.
Cheers,
~Kevin
Here's a question for everybody:
Since 90% of most usage is split between Client, Admin, Architect and App Architect, would it be sufficient to limit the different icons between those 4 or should it be all encompassing? I know it would be best to have them all different but I need to validate the cost:benefit ratio. User stories and quantifications would also be helpful. Thanks!
