Process Orchestration - add ability to schedule a job

Status: Delivered in 8.0
by Employee on ‎04-09-2010 07:55 AM

There are occasions where a scheduled batch job is the appropriate solution to a problem.

KnowledgeSync, TaskCentre and Scribe are examples of good tools that have traditionally been used to accomplish this kind of thing.

A scheduled batch job via Process Orchestration has the advantage of being able to make use of the SLX Entity Model (ORM) and related services provided by the WebClient technology stack.

Hi Todd,

Can you explain more of what you're after with this request? Are you meaning to do something like trigger a PO workflow to run at some specified schedule or time?

Yes - exactly

Could then use PO for some batch oriented integration, maybe run some reports and/or data dumps at a scheduled day and time, etc.

Note - i have an idea for a bit of a hack - but would prefer an actual feature.

hack:

Create a table/entity - maybe called "POBatchJob". This entity woudl have a proprty (or two) for designating what PO job you wanted to run.

Use any convenient scheduler and/or a custom NT service - schedule to run at desired dates and timesUse SData to write into the POBatchJob table/entity.

Define PO workflows linked to that POBatchJob table and specific property/values.

I have not actually tried this work-around to iron out the fine points, but I think theoretically it would work.
