Online help in App Architect

Status: New
by Silver Contributor ngaller on ‎03-11-2011 09:59 AM

I am staring at this screen in App Architect:

I wonder what "MultiCurrencyDependent" means.  It is probably documented in the help (actually it is not, I checked afterward), but it would be nice to have a tooltip, or a help button on that screen to take me to the relevant topic.

To compare with a well known app, the configuration properties in SalesForce have names that are just as obscure or worse, but almost every single screen has a help link.

By the way this also applies to help like this one:

"Gets or sets the name of the secured action".  Say what?

Or this one:

Almost as if these help texts are copied from an internal developer documentation.

Compare with this one which is good and actually tells me what the configuration is going to affect in MY code:

This is from the LAN client, it's not great, but it's a good effort, and it would be hard to describe the filter format in a line:

If that documentation string had been written in App Architect it would probably say "Gets or set the Filter string for the dialog".

I hate writing documentation as much as the next developer, and I am in this stuff day to day so I already know what most of it means, but I think a little bit of effort would go a long way to make the application more approachable to new developers (including customer IT staff, who used to like being able to make the occasional change in the LAN client architect, even if they had to call us to the rescue a few times, but is hopelessly lost in the new terminology)
