Offer Lead Capture input into Lead Table

The current Lead Capture Portal allows visitors to a web site to input there contact data directly into the Saleslogix Contact table.   Offer an optional version of this page that inserts data into the Lead table instead.  

 

My guess is that the assumption is that people who enter their contact data on a web site are "self-qualifying."   But this is not always enough.    One company I worked at offered free CD on their web site to potential customers.  It turned out that there are people all over the world who browse the internet looking for free stuff and will enter their addresses on any site offering something for free.   This company would prefer the opportunity to have a rep further qualify an web information request before it is loaded into Contac/Account.

 

This would allow more companies to more easily integrate Lead Capture in a way that fits their prefered business processes.

You are correct in that a Lead Capture portal should NOT be putting data in the Account/Contact table(s).

 

Go one step further and make the portal more of a "kit" that would make it easier for a customer to brand/integrate in their own web site.

 

However, to go the extreme - delete/drop the Lead Capture portal from the product. It's a dangerous hard link right into your SalesLogix db. Many folks have their web site "hosted" and you just cannot have an open link to your (on premise) db server that would be safe.

 

We have been using the "email" method of lead capture forever. The (hosted) web site sends a pre-formatted email (plain text) message to a specific address w/a specific subject. It's picked up by a Taskcentre email trigger and then is processed by a TaskCentre workflow/task.

 

Note: Several times in the past month we have had web site "hits" that are definitely attempts to either crash or penetrate/compromise our systems. The method we used has prevented every single one of them from "injecting" bad stuff into our systems.

I agree that Lead Capture should capture leads and not
contacts. Currently, can my company website post to Saleslogix and redirect
back? I only see people linking to the Lead Capture portal, which breaks the proper
flow of form submission. I know I can create a page on Saleslogix cloud server
to do it, but I don’t know about inserting the record properly into the
Saleslogix database.

 

I have created landing pages for other CRM systems. I used 2
forms, 1 where the user enters their information and then gets posted to a
second form. The second form has all hidden values. It takes values from the first
form and then adds username, password, success redirect URL, error redirect
URL, and other values that can control certain features. For security reasons those
systems use a special user account for form submission. This will not only add
records to the database but also allow my website to still send emails for
every form submission as a backup.

one way of doing it is to write a custom page that would just have a simple plain ASP.Net Page that would post data using SDATA.

 

Another option to pushing data from this web page would be to post the data into a custom SQL database having one table with similar structure of the leads table in SalesLogix which can be located in the same SQL server or a Linked SQL Server, there can be an SQL DTS job that can call the SLXOLEDB Provider functions to insert data into the Leads table.

In general.. I tend to be opposed (and so do a considerable number of security folks at customer sites) to the idea of having an "exposed" web page connected directly to the SalesLogix db. Before you know it, your SalesLogix DB is filled w/junk and garbage from spammers, etc that use "robots" to drive garbage to your site. SOme of this may just be spam and others the results of "hackers" bent on pure destruction for the pleasure of it.

 

A "disconnected" lead capture which either posts email to an app that processes it or some other "buffer" system that has sufficient business rules code to filter to a db that you can then import from (using Lead Import, TaskCentre, etc. is the safest way to go.

 

Suggest that Sage just completely drop the Lead portal from the product line.
