Our library has a file structure that is frequently debated and so things need to be moved around. It would be nice if files and folders could be dragged and dropped into a new place. The current system isn't the most user friendly. Currently I have to click to Add file and then delete it from the current location. Although this works, if you had added notes to the"Description" under the "Properties" in the SLX library, it won't remember those if you add the file from it's existing location to another one so you have to re-enter that description.
Also, there is some imperfect connection with Outlook regarding attaching files listed in the library. Although I have deleted a file from the library, when using Outlook "Insert SalesLogix Library" I will still see the file names I have deleted. If you click to add it, it won't add the no-longer-existing file, but it never ceases to confuse the users about which files are available and current.
Not only does this need to be Web and LAN enabled.....but it needs to be based on a compression technology and FTP basis.....
Face it, when the Library was 'designed' it was meant to allow Windows 95 machines with smallish hard drives the ability to bring in over a 33.6 MODEM a file to their local drive. Drop by a Kinko's and print out a presentation, cover page, or product #10 sell sheet for tomorrow's presentation.....then delete the files because hard drive's weren't that big in 1997......
Now that we routinely move around WMV files of X,000 Mb's this is simply an outdated design.
Think of the Library as a one way push or pull (or DnD) repository.
You should be able to schedule an extract/download as well.....click on / select a bunch of items, and instead of downloading them now, or drag n dropping them now, you can have them brought in at 1AM tonight when you are off the machine and it's hooked up to the web through your home Cable modem.....
