Import word templates into Saleslogix

Status: New
by Silver Contributor on ‎08-20-2013 02:30 AM

We often get the question if it is possible to import existing word templates into SalesLogix.

currently this is not possible. You can only do ctrl+a, ctrl+c and ctrl+v.

But this is no solution if you want to keep your formating.

So if you move mail merge to the server, please allow us to import existing word templates.

I'm supporting this Idea!

Btw. it would be nice to enabled support for docx / dotx documents to get documents saved as docx.

By the way, ther is already functionality built into slx as a "platform" to achieve exactly this.

If you look to the list of deprecated, but still - even in v8 - working LAN-client functions, you find a little pearl in Application.BasicFunctions  which does exactly this with a one liner.

The function "UpgradeWordTemplate", eventhough meant to be used for a different purpose, will take a path to an existing word document, let you chose some other details such as the plugin family, then imports the document as a new template and even returns the new pluginid.

For me its works like a charm, still present in v81 and functioning with word document types at least up to 2010 docx and dotx.

Therefore should not be too hard to implement something similar.
