ERP Link 3.0 SP1 Documentation Update

Status: New
by Nickel Contributor on ‎02-17-2011 05:17 PM

ERP Link 3.0 SP1 is supposed to be an all inclusive installation. i.e. you do not need to first install ERP Link 3.0, followed by Service Pack 1.

However the documentation and bundles included with ERP Link 3.0 SP1 are not updated and are extremely confusing (even to Sage support).

The SalesLogix bundle in the SP1 version does not include the .Net plugins required for ERP Link.

The bundle in the 3.0 version however does have these plugins.

Further, there is an implementation guide document included with ERPLink 3.01 ......which however applies only to the 3.0 version.

Apparently you're supposed to ignore this implementation guide and only follow the instructions in the "Applying Service Pack 1 for ERP Link 3.0" document.

I'd like to ask how on earth is anyone supposed to know this when they are installing the product from scratch??

I spent over an hour following the steps in the ERPLink 3.0 Implementation guide, and trying to figure out why my .Net plugins were not showing up, and eventually figured out that they are not in the bundle included with 3.0 SP1.....even though the bundles have the very same name "Sage MAS Integration.sxb"

When I called in to Sage Support, I was told that the "Implementation Guide was only included in 3.0 SP1 because it has good information included about maps, however the instructions in this guide should not be followed." I was also told that apparently in v3.01, you have to manually add these .Net Plugins in from the installed location.

Can someone at Sage please update this document and save someone else the hour I wasted trying to resolve a simple issue like this? Further it would be helpful if the bundles were clearly differentiated as follows:

ERPLink3.01 - For New Installs.sxb

ERPLink3.01 - For Upgrades.sxb

This way there is no confusion between the bundles and BPs do not have to spend time scratching their heads why things don't work.

Similarly there ought to be a Upgrading ErpLink 3.0 to 3.01 document (which is really what the current "Applying Service Pack 1 for ERP Link 3.0" document is) and a SEPARATE "Implementing ERP Link 3.01" document.

Thank you for your feedback.

This Service Pack, the included bundles, and the Upgrade documentation are intended to guide the user through the upgrade process from ERP Link 3.0 to ERP Link 3.0.1.

The Implementation Guide for 3.0 was included as reference material based on feedback from the Partners who participated in the beta who wanted quick access to the useful material it includes for configuring templates, setting up sites, and other configuration tasks.

Unfortunately, as we see in your case, the inclusion of this guide as a reference doc should have been more clear. Apologies for any loss of time or frustration this caused. The team is taking corrective action to remove  the Implementation Guide from the zip and  revise the upgrading document to include references to the configuration topics in the  ERP Link help file.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or feedback you may have regarding ERP Link.

Thanks again,

Appreciate your response.

I do hope the revisions to the documents are in the form of a document called "Implementation Guide for ERPLink 3.01" and not just modifications to the existing  "Applying SP1 for ERPLink 3.0". The latter should only have steps for customers UPGRADING from ErpLink 3.0 to 3.01.

New Customers could then use the Implementation Guide for 3.01 document

Existing Upgrades would use the Applying SP1 for ERPLink 3.0 document.

This way there's no confusion.
