Lookup spanning multiple tables

This is a newbie question. I have a lookup going against the UserInfo table:

<saleslogix:lookupcontrol runat="server" lookupentityname="User" InitializeLookup="true" lookupentitytypename="Sage.Entity.Interfaces.IUser, Sage.Entity.Interfaces, LookupBindingMode="String" >

<LookupProperties>
 <SalesLogix:LookupProperty PropertyName="UserInfo.LastName" PropertyFormat="None" UseAsResult="True" ExcludeFromFilters="False"></SalesLogix:LookupProperty>
</LookupProperties>

But my filter needs to come from a different table. (This table has UserID's which should link to UserInfo.UserID:

<LookupPreFilters>
 <SalesLogix:LookupPreFilter PropertyName="TBL_EXT.ACCOUNT_TYPE" FilterValue="'Competitor' and SALESCONTACTID is not null"></SalesLogix:LookupPreFilter>
</LookupPreFilters>

I was wondering if this is possible and if so, how do I link the UserID fields to pull the actual Last name.

Thanks
