Small Business Server 2008 Support

Hi all

One of our customers has experienced difficulties implementing SalesLogix v7.5.1 Web Client and Customer Portal on Small Business Server 2008 (64 bit).

There is no clear statement available, as far as I can determine, as to whether:

  1. Small Business Server 2008 is supported
  2. Whether there are customers using it successfully
  3. What issues or capability gaps in SBS 2008 would prevent SalesLogix from working,

Can anyone advise whether they have any success with SBS 2008 and SalesLogix 7.5.1?

Many thanks

Re: Small Business Server 2008 Support

SBS2008 is not supported by Sage.

What some customers do is to use a virtual second server to run slx.

Since SBS2008 you get a second license which you can use for this.

Especially the Web Client is not supported to run on a domain controler.

So the short answer is, use a second server for slx if you have problems.

Re: Small Business Server 2008 Support

Thanks for the quick reply (are you "Albert")

Can you please tell me more about the "second licence"?  What software is it for, and how does the customer know what the licence number is please?  Is it on some sort of printed certificate?

Regards and thanks.

Hi Paul

No, that was Alexander.

You can read more here in terms of licenses : http://www.microsoft.com/sbs/en/us/faq.aspx

Re: Small Business Server 2008 Support

BTW - I wouldn't necessarily agree that you can run an earlier version on a separate VM. The license states that you can downgrade - but you must downgrade all components. Similarly, you can run a version on a VM - but this would have to be the same version (i.e 2008).

This relates to the Premium edition only obviously, whereby you can run/get a 1+1 license.
