Hello all,
we have migrated to the Web 7.5.3 version and unfortunatly, it seems that the ability to merge Accounts (duplicates) is no longer available, except for admin (actually, it requires Administrator Role + TeamOwnership for Team(s) owning related records; as Administrator role gives also access to most features, we cannot).
Does anyone can advise what could be done? Are you aware of any change to come? How can we manage the merge?
Have you already experimented tool/solution to perform merge of accounts from a list?
Any advise will be welcome.
Thanks.
Stephane from Paris.

1. We're still on 7.2.2 and we don't allow anyone to Delete Accounts (a required permission for Merge)
2. If still multiple Admin Roles (7.2 has 3: Sales Admin, DB Admin, Librarian) maybe you can use 1 with limited functions
3. We went the Vendor route (ActivePrime) with a nice Merge utility (CleanCRM) but this is what happened about a year in...
It no longer worked when we upgraded to 7.2 since 6.x was no longer supported by Sage. The vendor never alerted us to this shortcoming, in fact, they tried to get us to renew our contract even though their product no longer supported the only Sage supported versions. I pursued the Rosalyn Gulati (CEO) directly since she so passionately sold us the product initially and she apologized for any inconvenience but said they had to focus their resources where the market was going (salesforce) and claimed her sales rep wasn't doing anything wrong since many clients continue to use unsupported SLX versions. So do you think he should mention that in his sales pitch for those of us who do?
Thanks,

Hello Larry,
in 7.5.3, we can create a custom role and assign Actions but the available actions are too global. The required action is "Administration/View" and it gives access to administration functions of Portal. It is not detailed in specific functions. What a pity...
ps: It is not fair from CleanCRM vendor.
Thanks.

Thanks for the update! So then you're still trying to confirm if only Admin can merge in 7.5.3. Hopefully, someone else could answer that for you!
I just checked the 7.5 Feature Comparison and it does show Merge as a functionality for the Web Client with a note that you must have 7.5.3. There's no mention of restriction to Admins but I have to believe if they provide instructions in help then it should be something any user can do. Have you checked with Sage or your BP - surely they would know!
Thanks again,
Larry Esposito

Hello Larry,
I have already asked our vendor.
A solution for us could be to use a Lan Client but the plan is to deploy only web version to our users. As we can address feature security more specifically for Lan, I do think the possibilities for Web Client will extends, but I don't have any information on this.
Regards.

As of SalesLogix 7.5.3 Web you can Merge 2 Accounts or 2 Contacts together from the List view.
As of SalesLogix 7.5.4 Web You can also merge from the DeDupe Process.

Tips and Tricks:
Making Merge Records Functionality Visible in the Web Client Merge Records allows the user to eliminate duplicate accounts or contacts. You can only merge duplicate accounts and contacts to which you have access rights. The first record selected in the list view is the "Source" and the second record is the "Target", the Merge Records is invoked by a Right Click in the list view - a popup will appear and the required values can be selected. |
To Make Visible in the Web Client One of the following options must be completed to make the Merge Records functionality visible in the Web Client. Option 1 – SQL Command 1. Delete the existing global MergeConfiguration.xml file located in the VFS 2. Edit the database with the SQL Command Delete FROM sysdba.VIRTUALFILESYSTEM where itemextension = '.xml' and itemname = 'MergeConfiguration.xml' 3. Merge the new Account and Contact mappings with the existing global MergeConfiguration.xml file located in the VFS. Option 2 - Application Architect 1. Open Application Architect. 2. Go to VFS Explorer. 3. Expand Configuration. 4. Expand Global. 5. Find MergeConfigurations.xml. 6. Delete MergeConfigurations.xml. |

Dear John,
thanks for your reply, but this is not the point. The Merging Account feature works fine in Slx Web but it requires Admin Roles.
We cannot give this role to a user.
In the list of available secured actions, there is only one action, named <Administration/View>, that gives access for the whole; it is a pity we cannot have a specific one to give access to the merge feature, isn't it?
Best Regards.

The above will allow you to get around this, no role is required.

Dear Emma,
can it be a solution for us?
Can it allow us to give access to MergingAccount to users that do not have the Admin role?
