Re: Recommendations or Whitepapers on Using SalesLogix LAN w/Citrix/Terminal Desktop vs. Web

My company started off with web and found that our customizations were not easy to port from LAN to the web as they were fairly complex.  After months of beta testing, updates to coding, test bundles, we found that we started creating a domino effect where that we fix one item, then another would break due to issues with sequencing events in the right order. It was beginning to become cumbersome so we started tinkering with a Citrix deployment strategy.

After a few weeks of vetting things out, we are now deciding to punt our remote users and most web users who require our custom functionality to Citrix and we are seeing better productivity out of them.

IMO if your company is using SalesLogix relatively out of the box or with few simple customizations, web is a great way to go as the upgrade path is relatively inexpensive for upgrades to SLX.  However, if you are heavily customized with very complex pieces of functionality, it may be far more cost effective to go the Ctirix route in terms of upgrading paths and user adoption.

Hope this helps.

Re: Recommendations or Whitepapers on Using SalesLogix LAN w/Citrix/Terminal Desktop vs. Web

Dennis,

We're on 7.2.2 and we have no plans to migrate to Web anytime soon since we have a highly customized Opps Main View. So we rely on the Network and Remote Clients. We also have a Citrix Client which we use for our casual users and our Remote sites (rather than a Remote Office which is something we simply never explored). But we get lots of push back from our Citrix users, especially those who used the much quicker Remote Client (since the DB is on the same machine) because of the handful of Citrix idiosyncrasies, the biggest one being that you can't use drag and drop from your PC's desktop into a Citrix session and the Outlook integration (Send SLX, Drag and Drop, etc) doesn't work with the PC's Outlook - our Citrix users have to use Outlook from the Citrix box which tends to confuse them.

We are anxiously awaiting the new thin Mobile Client supposedly coming in January so we should be planning for our upgrade to 7.5 soon. I think that could really help our users on the road.

Thanks,

Larry Esposito
