SQL2000 + v8.x

As the title suggests - the client is on v7.22 and working on SQL2000. They have just 10 users. Would SLX still work on this [very old] version - anyone still get anyone using it - with newer version of SLX ? They also use ExchangeLink and are planning on putting in mobile. Thanks for any real life reasons as to why they absolutely need to upgrade - or why they could stay with what they have. Thx Mike

Re: SQL2000 + v8.x

I'd think it would work fine as long as you deal w/the SlxServer connection sside (connect manager).

With just 10 users.. why not use SQL express (2005/2008) instead? I'm doing that at a couple of small installations.

Yes, that's what worries me (not tried it). With SQL/E - the issue is 1Gb of RAM and 10GB database (their's is already 8Gb). I'm wondering about SQL2012 Web Edition...

1gb of RAM??!??

Way too small.... Time for them to pony up to reality. I've thrown away (Best Buy Recycling) several of my own systems this past year that were bigger than that!

Got an Alienware laptop w/4gb and 17inch monitor that I'm going to toss in the recycle bin the next time I go to the store!

That's all the SQL/E editions support (for SQL2012/E) - even if you had 32Gb it would only address 1GB - that's their {MS} motivator to move to "proper" version.

Re: SQL2000 + v8.x

In BOTH customer systems that are running SQL/E - their systems are WIndows/LAN.. and run great! Both have mobility and one has synch to 5 RO's.

It's a matter of tuning up their db's and they are as quick as any system out there.
