Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

Wondering if anyone has ever migrated existing data from an SLX installation with Oracle to a fresh SLX installation using SQL Server.

I'm trying to find a way to preserve entity IDs.

Should I plan to export my Oracle schema with the table definitions from Oracle and allow them to overwrite the SQL server versions (we have customized columns we want to bring over), or can I simply do a data dump from the Oracle tables into the existing SQL Server tables and have those IDs get brought over?

We have export tools to work with so I'm not concerned about blob conversion (yet).

Re: Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

Soem pointers to get started...

A - Create a Saleslogix bundle w/ALL your SLX Custom tables

B - Use the slx import wizard to connect one to the other and map up your data...

   C ......

Re: Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

1) Would we need to export the bundle with data, or can we just export the schema?

2) Does the import wizard support anything other than Excel or CSV files? I am unfamiliar with this tool (we don't use LAN much).

Re: Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

A - No reason to take the data with the bundle

B - There's a help file on the IW and it explains that you can do use an OLEDB conenction (use the SLX Provider).

Re: Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

Thanks RJ. It sounds like you are suggesting:

1) let the installer complete without making any changes.
2) apply the bundle with custom tables/cols
3) use the IW to map existing fields

However, I want to make sure I understand - will this approach allow us to keep existing entity IDs? If so, how would that work?

That's why I asked about including data with the bundle; the larger goal is to make sure all entity IDs are the same after migration.

Thanks.

Re: Migrating Existing Oracle Data to SQL Server

You will have to experiment a bit..

There's "meta-data" that will need to be bundled to keep USERID's, etc - and the "general data" (ACCOUNTS, etc) can be brought over using IW.

When you bundle.. NO change of keys!
