We are trying to use DNS to identify all the servers in a SalesLogix environment so that machines can be easily swapped out and IP addresses changed without the need for reconfiguration of SalesLogix. When editing the Data Link properties in the Administrator or Architect and changing the SalesLogix Server name from its machine name (e.g. MACHINE1) to it's DNS name (e.g. SLXSERVER) we can run a Test Connection successfully, but when attempting to log in with the newly edited Data Link we see the following message:
The provider on server SLXSERVER is no longer in use. Please change your connection to the provider on server MACHINE1.
The message does not appear when using the Application Architect, only older apps like Administrator and Architect.
Does anyone know what, if anything, can be done to use a DNS name for a SalesLogix Server with the Administrator and these other applications? Can we register the server with its new name somehow?

Update: we changed the PINGSERVER value in the SYSTEMINFO table in the SalesLogix database we're connecting to be the new DNS name of the SalesLogix Server machine. Now we can edit the Data Link as described in my previous post on machines where we are running Administrator and Architect and log in successfully.
