After uninstalling and reinstalling slx 8.1 it now works.
What is a little strange is, that the version number is the same as with core 02.
it is still 220.127.116.119
is this correct?
I will try to update a client today or tomorrow and will see if we run into similar problems.

I'm not seeing any problems with the Export to Excel function from the Lookup Results Group for Account, Contacts, Leads or Opportunities.
It might be a regionalization or browser issue. Send it a logform with all your steps to support and we'll take a look at it for you.

That's correct the Version number will still read 8.1.1179
If you have any doubts around the updated files, please refer to the File Information section of the Applying Web Core Update 03 for Saleslogix Version 8.1 documentation.

did you right click on the Lookup Results group and choose "Export to Excel"? Not Export to File, because that's working.

I've tested this and do see the same error message.
Can you send in logform to support so we can formally raise this one for you and your customer please?
